NewsEnough is a news brief that ends.

Notice 09, AboutLast true on

It is one sentence a day and a short daily brief, written from primary documents and public records. A reader reads it, it finishes, and nothing on the page asks for more of the day than that.

Know enough to hold your own. In four minutes, or one line. That is the promise, and the product is built so that finishing is the ordinary outcome rather than a rare one.

It ends.

After the last item the brief renders its completion state and nothing else: no related items, no next brief, no recirculation strip. A test asserts that the page after that point holds no link into further content.

Who it is for

The reader is one of the 42 per cent who now avoid the news. They did not leave over bias. They left over volume and mood, and that one sentence decides most of the product.

Every other product in this category serves the engaged half, the readers who still want more of it, sorted and rated and cross-checked. Nobody serves the majority who stopped. This is for them.

What it will never contain

Six things are absent by design and stay absent. The reason is the same one every time: what the reader left was volume, and each of these puts volume back.

  • A feed. An unbounded surface reintroduces the volume the reader left over.
  • Infinite scroll. The brief has a last item and a completion state, and nothing loads more.
  • A bias-rating layer. Avoiders leave over volume and mood, and a left-to-right slider serves the half that stayed.
  • A game, a streak, a quiz or a score. Retention by obligation is the mechanic that produced the avoidance in the first place.
  • Comments, profiles and user-generated content. A surface of that kind creates a moderation problem this product has no reason to own.
  • Any push other than the Line, an alert on a document the reader has chosen to follow, a deadline or a correction. Every other class of notification is volume.

What is published already

Two pages exist before the product does, on purpose: the register of everything it reads, published with the exclusions set beside the inclusions, and the public log of corrections, open before there is a single entry in it.

What is not built yet

The product is not built and the site is not open. There is no launch date to give, and this page will not invent one to fill the space where a date would go.

There are no users, no partners and no press coverage. When any of that changes it appears here, and not before.

That is what this is, and that is where it stands today.
