The Line, the Brief and the weekly edition are free forever, and Plus does not change a word of what any of them say.

Notice 06, PlusLast true on

Plus does not buy a different fact, an earlier fact or a better-corroborated fact; it buys breadth, memory and convenience.

The product is not open yet. Nothing on this page can be bought today, there is no payment surface on this site, and no subscription exists to hold.

Free, forever

Free is not a sample of the product and it does not expire. It is the product at one location, with the day's sentence and the day's brief in full.

  • The Line, one sentence a day, complete on every channel it reaches.
  • The Brief, three to six items a day, at the first two depths.
  • The weekly edition on a Sunday, which a reader may take instead of the daily Line rather than as well as it.
  • One location.
  • Three follows, across topics, entities, places and document series.

The Line is never paywalled, never truncated and never carries a sponsorship unit.

The Line is the surface a stranger reads first, so it is a complete artefact wherever it lands. A sponsorship unit, if one is ever sold, sits after the completion state of a brief and cannot appear in the Line at all.

Plus is GBP 3.99 a month or GBP 29 a year. It is one entitlement, the same on the web and in both app stores, bought once and held across all of them.

Plus buys breadth, memory and convenience, and nothing else.

The corroboration grade, the publish floor and the wording rules are identical for a paying reader and for a free one, and they are set out on the methodology page. There is no earlier delivery behind the payment, no wider source set and no relaxed grade.

Advertising

There is no advertising at launch and none is sold now. Hand-sold sponsorship is written down as a fallback, and it fires only if subscription revenue does not cover the cost of running the product.

If it ever fires, it is bound by rules written now rather than under revenue pressure later:

  1. 01One unit per brief, and it sits after the completion state.
  2. 02Never inside an item.
  3. 03Never in the Line.
  4. 04Never in a push.
  5. 05Labelled identically on every channel.
  6. 06Sold by us, never by a network.
  7. 07Never targeted using location, calendar or follow data.

The ad-free entitlement binds us only if there is ever anything to be free of.

The binding attaches to the fallback, not to a product that carries advertising today. Nothing is sold, so nothing is withheld, and the seven rules above were written before any income depended on setting them aside.

When the product opens, the free reader and the paying reader will read the same Line, on the same morning, with the same documents behind it.
